The MEGA BEAST

Over the years, I have wanted to offer a LARGE caliber hunting rifle. The 577 Nitro or the 600 Nitro has enticed me for years. We attempted to produce a single-shot 600 Nitro, but encountered difficulties finding manufacturers to handle the small parts and stocks. So we dropped the idea, until recently. For quite a few years now, we have been building LARGE caliber hunting rifles. After several African safaris and examining the various big-game rifles owned by professional hunters, we decided to make the guns in the same calibers, with most of them on the Ruger No. 1 platform.

The MEGA BEAST

Field Grade $2495. (on your Ruger No.1)

Deluxe Grade $2995. (on your Ruger No.1)

A rifle that is sitting on the ground.

About 20 years ago, we introduced our new Mega Beast in 470 Nitro, 500 Nitro, and 500 Jeffrey, and it is still very popular. In the last few years, we have added the 476 GNR to the lineup, and it is a great, dangerous game cartridge.

The MEGA BEAST is built on your Ruger No.1 base gun. The base gun can be in any caliber, as it will be changed. We start with a new heavy-duty 20-inch barrel and our own muzzle brake(reducing felt recoil close to 50%), front and rear express sights, and engraving on the sideplates with scenes of dangerous game. This version (pictured above) features extensive engravings of dangerous game and intricate scrollwork. We add gold or silver bands to the barrel and complete it in our Black Chromex finish. We refinish the stock in an ebony finish and add a decelerator recoil pad to provide a comfortable shooting experience. The field-grade rifle is similar, but more of a working gun, without the engraving and decorative bands.

In the past, the 470 Nitro, 500 Nitro, and 500 Jeffrey ammo have been a bit hard to find, but no more.  Hornady offers excellent ammunition in these great calibers. The 476 GNR is also available for the custom reloader.  We have the dies, and you can easily load them yourself. Whether you go for the 470, the 500 Nitro, 476 GNR, or the 500 Jeffrey, you will have one of the finest dangerous game rifles made.
